Vermont Tech hires Barry Hulce for Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative
Randolph Center, VT (05/27/2021) — Barry Hulce has been hired to the Vermont Technical College staff as the Executive Director for the Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative (VT-MC), hosted by Vermont Tech on the Randolph Center campus. Hulce, a South Burlington resident, comes to the college with 25 years' experience in the manufacturing industry, including the areas of Industry 4.0, advanced manufacturing, technology innovation and product development. Hulce has founded a manufacturing company, lead operations, managed engineering departments, and been a practicing engineer over the course of his diverse career.
Hulce will lead efforts to fulfill the mission of the Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative, started in July 2019 with the contract awarded to Vermont Tech from the U.S. Army's Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) office as part of the its National Imperative for Industrial Skills. The college received the contract thanks to Senator Patrick Leahy, Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to establish the first advanced manufacturing education, research and development facility in Vermont to serve the state and region. The Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative is a public-private partnership between industry, higher education, and technical and support resources. Since first opening the Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative, Vermont Tech has begun renovation in Morrill Hall to expand its additive manufacturing facility, developed and began offering additive manufacturing curriculum in its Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and purchased equipment primarily in the precision metals sub-sector of additive manufacturing. VT-MC has also connected partner businesses with potential new commercial and Department of Defense business opportunities.

I believe his leadership will help make it the driver of innovation in the sector," said President Patricia Moulton on announcing Hulce's hire.
Hulce has a master's degree in Technology Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland, a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, and certifications in Lean 6 Sigma, Project Management Professional and Balanced Scorecard Professional.
Hulce's first day at Vermont Tech's Vermont Manufacturing Collaborative is June 1, 2021.
